Many of our personnel have been with our firm for ten years or more. We work collaboratively within our firm, with our clients, consultants and contractors, to achieve optimum results for your projects. David A. Souers, AIA, ACHA, ASHE, Principal Architect has been practicing architecture for forty-five years, with twenty-seven in healthcare. David, a graduate of Harvard and Syracuse, had a twenty year career in commercial and corporate office architecture before founding Optimus Architecture. Mr. Souers worked with nationally recognized design firms including I.M. Pei & Partners, ADD Inc and Cambridge Seven, all in Boston, on major projects including the Christian Science Center, the John Hancock Tower, Digital Equipment World Headquarters and Charles Square. Returning to New York, Mr. Souers worked with the Edgewater Companies, a real estate development firm developing office buildings for corporate clients including IBM, Allstate, and CNA Insurance. His final project with Edgewater was a new health education and administrative building for Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital, where he developed a 130,000 sf five story building in Syracuse, NY. This background has provided a solid foundation for all of Optimus Architecture’s professional services.
Since establishing Optimus in 1992, Mr. Souers developed Optimus into a nationally recognized healthcare design firm, as well as a locally recognized firm for delivering high quality commercial, residential and community projects. Mr. Souers is a founding member of the American College of Healthcare Architects, where he has served on a committee to qualify architects for application to the ACHA.
Patrick Roberts, AIA, LEED AP, Project Architect, a registered architect, had twenty years of experience in a variety of project types when he came to our firm. Mr. Roberts now has ten years of experience with us on our healthcare projects, making a total of thirty years in architecture. Mr. Roberts manages our services for several of our important local clients, including Columbia Memorial Hospital and Central Hudson Gas & Electric.
Daniel Gallagher, AIA, Project Architect, a registered architect with his Master’s Degree from the University of Buffalo, joined our firm after working with several recognized firms including Cannon Design and Kohn Pederson Fox.
Mr. Gallagher has been with us for more than ten years working principally on our healthcare projects. He has developed from a support position into a capable project architect, designer and manager with several Ambulatory Surgery Center projects and an 18,000 sf hospital patient unit completed, among many other projects. He manages our services for two of our long standing healthcare clients, Glens Fall Hospital and ODA Primary Health Care Network, Inc. in Brooklyn, NY.
Jason Terranova, Project Manager, has been a member of our firm for more than twenty years. Mr. Terranova has grown and developed into a leader on all issues relating to consultant coordination, building codes, health codes, construction documentation and construction phase services. Mr. Terranova has contributed to many of our healthcare projects. More recently, he managed the design development, construction documents and construction phase administration on three Mid Hudson Medical Group projects totaling 175,000 sf and $38.5 million completed over a five year period.
Santosh Risal, Architectural Designer, has been an important member of our firm for more than one year now. Mr. Risal came to us with 8 years of healthcare design experience and his Bachelor of Science in Architecture, 1995, Adamson University in Nepal. Mr. Risal, working under our project architects has contributed to projects for Glens Falls Hospital, HealthAlliance, and North Med.
Mariel Hilowitz, Interior Designer, joined us after working with Creative Office Pavilion – A Herman Miller Furniture Dealer, Boston, MA. Ms. Hilowitz graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology (CIDA accredited) where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Interior Design. While at Wentworth, Ms. Hilowitz had paid internships with Nelson / Black Cow Architects and Creative Office Pavilion. Ms. Hilowitz collaborates and works under the supervision of the Architects in our office, assisting our teams with all activities from Schematic Design, DOH CON Plans and applications, Construction Documents as well as finish material selections and specifications.
Optimus trains our interior designers to address all aspects of interior architecture. This expands their skills and capabilities to work with our clients, architects, engineering consultants and contractors in a truly integrated team. They are sensitive to and experienced with aesthetic design, functional planning, codes, engineering issues and construction.
Karin Reynolds, AIA, Project Planner & Designer, came to us as a full time employee in 2004 as a registered architect, after twenty years of previous professional experience. After helping us complete our Northern Dutchess Hospital Modernization & Expansion project, Mrs. Reynolds returned to her own private practice. As the need arises, Mrs. Reynolds frequently returns to our firm to assist us with assignments on our larger healthcare projects. Mrs. Reynolds, experienced with our staff and clients works in our office with our staff that she has known for many years.
Linda Souers, MBA, Business Manager, has been with our firm since its founding in 1992. Ms. Souers, with her art education degree from Syracuse University and her MBA from Marist College, manages all of our business and human resources operations. Over the years, she has contributed in every area of our services including business and project management, as well as interior design.
