Optimus has planned and designed many patient units at various hospitals. This patient unit at Northern Dutchess Hospital is part of a 55,000 sf three story addition, plus renovations to modernize and expand all of the major departments.
Optimus designed both this In-patient Rehab Unit and a Physical Therapy Out-patient Unit. These two departments support the hospital’s specialty in Orthopedic Surgery. The In-patient Rehab Unit includes components similar to a skilled nursing facility, such as a family visiting room, staff offices for meetings and social work, an exam room, a patient dining and activity room, a staff break and meeting room, and a patient gym with kitchen and bathroom training facilities. Patient rooms include private toilet rooms with showers. The orientation of the unit was selected to face a front lawn with shade trees for more attractive light and views. Colors and finishes are a soft colorful residential pallet. Medical gases are concealed behind headwall artwork. Our architects and interior designers excell at creating less institutional settings for better patient care, as promoted by the Planetree model.
