Many of our personnel have been with our firm for more than ten years. Most all of our personnel grew up in the Mid-Hudson Valley. Those who came from other places have long made the Hudson Valley their home. This has many benefits for us and our clients, having professionals dedicated to the quality and vitality of our local and northeast communities. We work collaboratively within our firm, with our clients, consultants and contractors, to achieve optimum results for your projects. David A. Souers, AIA, Principal Architect has been practicing architecture for forty-five years, with twenty-seven in healthcare. David, a graduate of Harvard and Syracuse, had a twenty year career in commercial and corporate office architecture before founding Optimus Architecture. Mr. Souers worked with nationally recognized design firms including I.M. Pei & Partners, ADD Inc and Cambridge Seven, all in Boston, on major projects including the Christian Science Center, the John Hancock Tower, Digital Equipment World Headquarters and Charles Square. Returning to New York, Mr. Souers worked with the Edgewater Companies, a real estate development firm developing office buildings for corporate clients including IBM, Allstate, and CNA Insurance. His final project with Edgewater was a new health education and administrative building for Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital, where he developed a 130,000 sf five story building in Syracuse, NY. This background has provided a solid foundation for all of Optimus Architecture’s professional services.
Since establishing Optimus in 1992, Mr. Souers developed Optimus into a nationally recognized healthcare design firm, as well as a locally recognized firm for delivering high quality commercial, residential and community projects. Mr. Souers was a founding member of the American College of Healthcare Architects, where he served on a committee to qualify architects for application to the ACHA.
Daniel Gallagher, AIA, Project Architect, a registered architect with his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from the University of Buffalo, joined our firm after working with several recognized firms including Cannon Design and Kohn Pederson Fox.
Mr. Gallagher has been with us for more than ten years working principally on our healthcare projects. Dan has developed from a support position into a capable project architect, designer and manager, completing many challenging healthcare projects including a number of Ambulatory Surgery Centers, two 18,000 sf hospital patient units, and many outpatient clinics, among many other projects. He manages our services for two of our longest standing healthcare clients, Glens Fall Hospital and ODA Primary Health Care Network, Inc. in Brooklyn, NY.
Patrick Roberts, AIA, LEED AP, Project Architect, a registered architect, had twenty years of experience in a variety of project types when he came to our firm. Mr. Roberts now has ten years of experience with us on our healthcare projects, making a total of thirty years in architecture. Mr. Roberts manages our services for several of our important local clients, including Columbia Memorial Hospital and Central Hudson Gas & Electric.
Jason Terranova, Project Manager, has been a member of our firm for more than twenty years. Mr. Terranova has grown and developed into a leader on all issues relating to consultant coordination, building codes, health codes, construction documentation and construction phase services. Mr. Terranova has contributed to many of our healthcare projects. More recently, he managed the design development, construction documents and construction phase administration on three Mid Hudson Medical Group projects totaling 175,000 sf and $38.5 million completed over a five year period.
Caitlyn Coon, Interior Designer, joined our firm with a BFA, Interior Design and a minor in Business Administration from Sage College of Albany. Prior to joining Optimus, Caitlyn worked with other firms on space planning, furniture systems and interior finishes. Caitlyn is a team member involved in each of our healthcare projects, addressing space planning, interior finishes research, interior design, construction documents and construction phase support.
Nate Gange, Graduate Architect, has worked for our firm for five years, starting with summers and vacations while he was an undergraduate student at the University of Buffalo and then as a graduate student at Rice University School of Architecture. Mr. Gange earned a number of scholarship honors and design awards in school. Since graduation in the winter of 2016, Nate has worked full time with us on a variety of healthcare projects under the supervision or our principal and senior architects.
Linda Souers, MBA, Business Manager, has been with our firm since its founding in 1992. Ms. Souers, with her art education degree from Syracuse University and her MBA from Marist College, manages all of our business and human resources operations. Over the years, she has contributed in every area of our services including business and project management, as well as interior design.
Stacy Becker, Assistant Business Manager, recently joined our firm to take over the Business Manage’s position. Stacy has been employed in financial, customer,facilities, business, engineering and architecture administrative responsibilities since 1994. She holds a Master of Science and Bachelor of Arts in Psychology degrees from the University of New York, College at New Paltz.

Interior Design Consultant
Tina Stephens, RN, IIDA, a Registered Nurse and certified Interior Designer, is a former Optimus Architecture staff interior designer. Tina started working with us in 2003 when she graduated from Syracuse University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Interior Design. (FIDER accredited program). Over an eleven year period, Tina designed the interiors on every healthcare project in our firm. Tina was well liked by all of our clients for her skill and , In 2014, Tina left us to attend nursing school. She now works as an RN in a hospital patient unit where she is experiencing all of the patient care, operational, housekeeping and maintenance issues that we design for. With her experience in both healthcare design and nursing, Tina can now more effectively help us design facilities that work better and last longer for the healthcare staff that equip, use, and maintain them. Tina will consult to us when she is not working at the hospital.
