Optimus was retained to design this house for a couple planning retirement from Long Island. They had acquired a unique site at the top of a high peak in Dutchess County with 360 degree views of uninterrupted landscape.
They had a number of goals: Take full advantage of the views. Open and gracious space, indoors and out, to entertain family and friends. A kitchen that supports the owner’s skill and enjoyment in gourmet cooking. All living accommodations for the owners on one floor. A separate living floor for their grown children and grandchildren to spend weekends. State-of-art technology with energy reliability and efficiency.
Our client wanted our design expertise and guidance, while remaining involved and making decisions throughout the design and construction process. We brought contractors on-board early to establish a collaborative design and construction team with the owner.
Together, we developed a design that fits into the hilltop, with three level. An entry hall, three car garage and playroom are on the lower ground floor. An elevator and stair take family and guests to the mid-level owner’s living area, main floor, which accesses grade level patios. The highest third level provides bedrooms, common sitting room and porches looking east and west for children or guests to enjoy the views and relax in their own privacy.
A geothermal heating and cooling system, built-in generator, over insulated roofs and walls, smart house controls and wiring, all contribute to on-site and remote energy and house systems management.
