inspired, comfortable, functional building design

Northern Dutchess Hospital ED
Northern Dutchess Hospital
Rhinebeck, NY

NDH’s CEO, Mike Mimoso reported after our design was built: “Our patients report the highest levels of satisfaction – especially in the ER! How many ER’s in this area rank among the nation’s top 4%!”

Optimus worked with nationally recognized ED consultants Norman Rosenfeld Architects, NYC, and Sterling Planning, Boston to establish the right size and patient care. We then developed the design, bringing functional areas closer together for a staff efficient and patient friendly ED.

The nurse station, the central hub of the ED has control, visibility and short steps to every patient. The ambulance entry, critical care, walk-in, waiting, triage, exam rooms, peds, OBGYN, decontam / isolation, ortho, imaging, access to surgery all come together at the nurse station. The next door lab has both a pneumatic tube and walk-up service counter. The operational efficiencies of this ED allow NDH to serve a growing population, without overtaxing its facilities or staff.
