Sharon Hospital retained Optimus to design a new 2,500 sf Wound Care Center along with an adjoining 1,900 sf surgical physician practice suite in a vacant space on the ground floor of a new wing. We worked very effectively with Diversified Clinical Services, Jacksonville, FL, a wound care facility specialist, who operates the Wound Care Center with the hospital.
Diversified proposed an initial floor plan that estalished the program, but did not satisfy the hospital’s requirement for the surgical suite. Optimus developed a compact tenant floor plan using the existing generous ambulatory care lobby as waiting and reception for the surgical suite for more functional efficiency. The Wound Care Center was positioned for convenient rear door staff and ambulance access, with direct access for physicians from the surgical suite.
Budget was a significant concern for the hospital. The new core & shell wing had been designed by another firm using 20% of the new wing for MEP service space, with more costly central equipment and airhandlers than this project could afford. The equipment for our space had not been installed. We adapted the existing and unbuilt MEP systems for economy, cutting those costs in half over the original core & shell design. Our interior designers selected economical finishes in attractive colors. The hospital opened this facility with high praise from patients, doctors and staff, as well as Diversified management.
