St Francis Hospital retained Optimus to design a new Infusion Center on the ground floor of the 80,000 sf Medical Arts Pavilion on the hospital campus. Optimus had designed all of the healthcare fit-up in this building, developed by the Rendina Companies.
The project was designed and constructed in two phases. A 5,200 sf Chemotherapy Infusion Center was designed and built in 2011. That project included a fully operational infusion center with seven curtained cubicles and a private room, four exam rooms, a mixing pharmacy, waiting, reception, offices and support spaces. St Francis wanted an attractive facility at a modest cost. The project was opened and operated with complements from the hospital, staff and patients.
In 2013, St Francis returned to Optimus for an expansion design to add 2,700 sf. The expansion added services and functions including ultrasound, mammography, bone density, stereotactic, physician offices and exam rooms, a cosmetic boutique and a tumor board conference room. The construction will be completed in 2013.
This project demonstrates that effective functional design can be achieved within limited budgets, without sacrificing the aesthetic environment that staff and patients require for their work and healing.
